Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're cleaning out your closet, looking for a great designer find, or shopping our collection of new boutique merchandise, we're here to make the process easy. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often about shopping and consigning with The Consignery.

How does consignment work?

The Consignery makes selling the pieces you no longer wear simple. We review your items, select those we believe are a good fit for our customers, and handle the rest—from photographing and pricing to listing, marketing, selling, and shipping.

When an item sells and the payment clears, you receive your portion of the proceeds according to our consignment agreement. It's a hands-off way to give great pieces a second life without having to photograph, list, negotiate, package, or ship them yourself.

What percentage do consignors receive?

Consignors receive 50% of the net proceeds from the sale of their items. For merchandise sold through third-party marketplaces such as Poshmark, applicable marketplace selling fees are deducted before the proceeds are split.

What brands do you accept?

We accept a wide variety of contemporary, premium, designer, and luxury brands based on current demand, condition, style, and resale potential. We also consider great pieces from less widely known brands when the quality and style are right.

Acceptance isn't based on the label alone. We look at the entire item—condition, age, style, season, original retail value, and what our customers are currently buying.

What types of items do you accept for consignment?

We consider women's and men's clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, accessories, and select other merchandise based on condition, style, brand, season, and current resale demand.

Not sure whether something is a fit? Contact us before your appointment and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

What items don't you accept?

We generally do not accept clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, or accessories that are heavily worn, stained, damaged, missing pieces, noticeably outdated, or unlikely to sell in today's resale market.  Out of season clothing meeting the criteria are accepted.

We may also decline items based on resale value or current customer demand. An item can be perfectly nice and still not be the right fit for The Consignery.

What condition should my items be in?

Consignment merchandise should be clean, current, and in excellent condition. Clothing should be freshly laundered or cleaned and free of stains, odors, excessive wear, pet hair, or damage. Shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories should also be clean and ready to sell.

A good rule of thumb: if you wouldn't be excited to find it while shopping, it's probably not ready for consignment.

How should I prepare my clothing for consignment?

Please bring clothing clean, neatly folded or on hangers, and ready to sell. Check pockets and inspect items for stains, missing buttons, broken zippers, odors, pet hair, or other signs of wear before bringing them to us.

Preparing items before drop-off helps us process your consignment more quickly.

Do I need an appointment to drop off items?

Yes. All consignment drop-offs are by appointment only.

Because The Consignery is an online business rather than a traditional retail storefront, scheduling an appointment ensures we're available to receive your items and gives us the opportunity to properly manage incoming consignments.

Please contact us to arrange your drop-off appointment before bringing merchandise.

Do you pick up clothing?

Yes. The Consignery offers pickup within our local service area. Pickup availability may depend on your location and the approximate quantity and type of merchandise you have to consign.  There is a fee - please use the Services to arrange a pickup.

Where do you offer pickup?

We offer local consignment pickup in and around Yardley, Pennsylvania, including communities throughout the surrounding Bucks County area. Pickup availability may vary based on location and the quantity of merchandise being consigned, so please contact us to confirm availability if you have any questions.

What happens to items you don't accept?

Items that aren't a fit for resale through The Consignery may be donated rather than returned, in accordance with our consignment agreement. This helps keep the process easy for our consignors while giving usable clothing and accessories another opportunity to be enjoyed.

Please review our current consignment terms before your appointment so you know exactly how unaccepted merchandise will be handled.

How do you decide what my items are worth?

We price consignment merchandise based on several factors, including brand, condition, age, style, original retail price, current resale demand, seasonality, and comparable resale prices.

Our goal is to find the sweet spot between maximizing the value of your item and pricing it competitively enough to actually sell.

How long do you keep consignment items?

Our standard consignment period is six months.

We make exceptions for items that are highly seasonal. If a coat, swimsuit, or other seasonal piece is dropped off outside its ideal selling period, we may keep it through the appropriate season rather than allowing the consignment period to expire before the item has had a reasonable opportunity to sell.

Where do you sell my consignment items?

The Consignery markets merchandise through our own online store as well as select third-party resale marketplaces. This gives qualifying merchandise exposure to a larger pool of potential buyers while allowing us to manage the entire selling process for you.

When and how do consignors get paid?

Consignors are paid after an item sells and the buyer's payment has cleared.

Payments are generally issued weekly or bi-weekly through Venmo. Consignors who prefer to receive payment by check are generally paid monthly.

Are consignment items returnable?

No. All pre-owned and consigned merchandise is final sale.

Because consignment pieces are typically one-of-a-kind and owned by individual consignors, we do not accept returns or exchanges on consignment merchandise. We make every effort to provide accurate descriptions, measurements, photographs, and condition information so you can shop confidently.

If you have a question about an item before ordering, please contact us. We're happy to provide additional information whenever possible.

Do you authenticate designer items?

We carefully review designer merchandise before accepting it for consignment and do not knowingly sell counterfeit merchandise.  There is not a formal authentication process through a third party vendor at this time.

Do you sell new merchandise too?

Yes! The Consignery is part consignment shop and part online boutique. Along with our curated selection of pre-owned clothing, handbags, jewelry, accessories, and other finds, we offer brand-new boutique merchandise sourced specifically for The Consignery.

What are boutique items?

Boutique items are brand-new merchandise purchased specifically for sale through The Consignery rather than items received from individual consignors.

We identify merchandise as new boutique merchandise or pre-owned/consignment whenever possible so you know exactly what you're purchasing—and which return policy applies.

Do you accept returns on consignment items?

No. All consignment and pre-owned merchandise is final sale. We encourage you to review the complete product description, measurements, condition information, and photographs before purchasing.

Do you accept returns on new boutique items?

Yes. Eligible new boutique merchandise may be returned within 14 days, provided it meets the requirements of our return policy.

Because our return policies differ between new boutique merchandise and consignment merchandise, please check the product description and our current return policy before purchasing.

Do you have a storefront?

Not yet! The Consignery is currently a 100% online consignment shop and boutique based in Yardley, Pennsylvania. We don't currently have a retail storefront for in-person shopping.

Local consignment drop-offs are available by appointment, and we're working toward opening a physical shop in the future.

In the meantime, you can shop our entire collection online anytime.

Where is The Consignery located?

The Consignery is an online consignment shop and boutique based in Yardley, Pennsylvania, serving consignors throughout Yardley, Lower Makefield, Newtown, Langhorne, Washington Crossing, and the surrounding Bucks County area.

We do not currently operate a walk-in retail storefront. Consignment drop-offs are available locally by appointment, while shopping is available online.

Can I shop online?

Absolutely—in fact, that's where you'll find us! The Consignery is currently 100% online, so you can shop our collection anytime at TheConsignery.shop.

Our online store includes both curated consignment pieces and brand-new boutique merchandise, with new finds added regularly. Because many consignment pieces are one-of-a-kind, once they're sold, they're gone.

Can I pick up my online order if I live nearby?

No. All online purchases are shipped, including orders placed by customers who live locally.

While we offer local appointments for consignment drop-offs, we do not currently offer customer pickup for online purchases.

Do you ship?

Yes. All purchases made through TheConsignery.shop are shipped directly to the customer. This includes customers in Yardley and the surrounding Bucks County area.  We typically ship using USPS.
